EWU WOMENS HOCKEY

March 13th, 2014

To finish out the season our Lady Eags played WSU the weekend of MAR 8/9. On the Saturday game WSU came out on top in OT, beating EWU 2-1. Eastern rallied back on Sunday sending our seniors off with a solid win with a score of 3-1! Couldnt have asked for a better way to end the season. Best of luck to our seniors! After a loveyly winterbreak EWU's women's hockey team was back on the ice at 9PM sharp practicing for the rest of our season. The eagles will spend alot of time on the road these last 3 months of our season. Upcoming games include playing WSU, Montana, and Seattle. Eastern will also represent in 3 tournys. Its gonna be a good second half of the season! Dont miss anything by checking back regularly!

Alexia Diable and Misty Spencer got an amazing opportunity to stand on the ice alongside several other native local hockey players. This event was held prior to a Spokane Chiefs game for Native Appreciation Night! Not a single faceplant in front of all those atendees.. way to represent.

Novermber 11th, 2013

It was a good weekend for your lady eags! Montana Griz drove to our home ice for the weekend in hopes of bringing two W's home. In the Saturday game (11/16) Montana came out strong and showed us the pace of the game. The Lady Eags came out harder in the 3rd period to tie the game up. Cloie Cornell scored the winning goal in an OT breakaway. Super sick. Final score: 6 to 5.

In the second game (11/17) Eastern knew what to expect from Montana and brought a bang to the ice the first 2 periods. Montana picked it up and stayed steady in the 3rd but it wasnt enough. The Eags took that W to the books too! Final Score: 5-4.

Game Stars 11/16

1. The whole team: Cause we're super sick. 

2. Courtney Herom-combb: For steppin in as centre and playin textbook style which resulted in 2 needed goals . 2g.

3. Cloie Cornell: Game winning goal in OT? yes. speaks for itself. And cant forget the 4 sick dishes to the rest of the game goals. 1g 4apples.

On the 9th the eags took a harsh score beating from Spokane. Misty Spencer dropped the mitts in the first 10 lettin them know the pace, got to feed her a few before it was broken up by the stripes. (1game suspension, well earned). Took a tough loss of 9 biscuits in our net while only making up 1 for ourselves. Credit that diamond in the rough to Becky Fullerton. 

After a night full of nothing but water, carbs (for energy or something), and rest, Eastern came back the next day in full swing ready to make up for the previous shutdown. Your lady eags left the ice chins high with a score of 6 to 5. How did they win 6 to 5 you ask? Heres how my friend, Alexia Diablo carrying a lady eag filled bacpack with a natty hatty, Cpt. Gellhaus and Cloie Cornell getting 2 through, and to finish it off a super sick shootout. Becky Fullerton placing the puck top chedds, where the water bottle sleeps. 

Game Stars 11/10:

1. Alexia Diablo: Get a hatty? too easy for Diablo this weekend. Straight up KILLIN it and gettin buckets. Intensity prevails and showed she wanted the puck. Bet it was the clear stick tape. 3g 1apple.

2. Becky Fullerton: 2 Sick regulation goals, no dust to be found and a beauty of a game winning shelf in the shootout! 2g.

3. Alex Gellhaus: For gettin a digit added to our score and a sick assist. Captain Gellhaus also shows she is fearless and patient in battle, and will lead the lady eags out of zone with ease any day.  1g 1apple.

11/16 & 11/17 COME CHEER US ON!

After a bye weekend rest, the lady eags were informed by Seattle they couldnt make it to come play! Instead they played our very own EWU Junior Varsity Men's Hockey team. Total Gongshow, but all in good fun ofcourse. JV came out on top with the first win of the weekend, after the game a rematch was requested for the follwing day, and granted.

With the second game your Lady Eags battled to death and prevailed with a win. Sweet, sweet victory. Next scheduled Battle Royale with these boys is November 23rd. 

October 13th, 2013

Eastern's first weekend of games were split with one loss and one win against Spokane's Women's Hockey team. The first game on 10/12 was a back and forth barn burner ending with Spokane scoring in over time ending the game at 4-3.

EWU rallied back the next day on 10/13 against Spokane again and came out on top with a score of 3-0.

Game Stars 10/12:

1. Christina Burress: Getting a hatty in the first game of the season.

2. Cloie Cornell: For dishin sick passes! 2 assists, creating scoring chances. 

3. Kaila Mongomery & Anel Nurzhanou: Kaila for killin in her battles and containing the puck. Anell for picking up the game so quickly! 

Game Stars 10/13:

1. Melissa, our step in goalie: Being a brick wall, blockin all leaks, keepin a shut out even with Spokane's penalty shot.

2. Cloie Cornell & Misty Spenser: Cloie for a killer PK break away goal. Misty for her hockey sense and sacrificial shot block. Way to take one for the team.

3. Our very own Defense: Destroyin Spokane's scoring opportunities, and gettin in their heads.

Join us in the fight against breast cancer! EWU Women's Hockey team will be showing support for the fight against breast cancer with pink stick tape and a pink in the ice! All of EWU's ice hockey teams have participated in the past, courtesy of EWU's Varsity Men's Team. 

Come out and show support and donate! Our game is October 12th at 02pm! We will have a bin for donations!
